Asheville Area Metro Remains Lowest Unemployment in NC

WNCAsheville Area Metro remains with the lowest unemployment rate in NC according to the NC Department of Commerce’s September 28, 2016 news release.  The Asheville Metro, consisting of Buncombe, Henderson, Madison and Transylvania counties, is reported to have a 4.1% unemployment rate, a decline from its 4.7% OTY.

Of all North Carolina counties, Buncombe remains with the lowest unemployment rate at 3.9%, a decline from its 4.5% OTY.  Close behind, Henderson County is tied for third lowest unemployment in North Carolina at 4.3%, a decline from 4.9% OTY).  Madison County posted a 4.9% unemployment rate, a decline from 5.8% OTY.  Transylvania County boasts a 4.8% unemployment rate, a decline from 5.4% OTY.  Of the one hundred counties in North Carolina, thirty-eight had unemployment rates at or below 5% for August 2016.  All four counties comprising the Asheville Area Metro are below 5% unemployment. The U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics Economic News Release posted September 7, 2016, identified data for the 345 largest counties in the U.S. for 2015.  In this report, Buncombe County was 18th out of 345 in job growth at 4.3%.  Buncombe was also identified at 59th out of 345 in wage growth at 1.7%.  http://www.bls.gov/news.release/cewqtr.t01.htm
