Employee Benefit Analysis

Providing the best possible employee benefits and compensation packages is vital to attracting and retaining top talent. Today there are many choices available in designing complete benefits packages. We can research, analyze and recommend competitive compensation and benefits options, then help you implement, administer and monitor the plans you select. These plans include, but are not limited to, pension and profit-sharing plans such as 401(k), 403(b) and ESOPs; cafeteria plans; and deferred compensation plans. We also guide you in appropriate participant and government reporting and tax compliance.

ERISA

While the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) of 1974 serves to protect the interest of participants in pension and health plans, it also provides guidance on plans that are mutually beneficial for you and your employees. In addition to performing a complete assessment of your tax-qualified benefit plans, we’ll evaluate your reporting and disclosure practices to be sure they meet governmental standards. We can also provide attest services for pension and health plans when an audit of your plan is required by the Department of Labor.

Cost Segregation

The professionals as JPS can discover great tax savings for you by identifying assets bundled with your real property that may be depreciated over shorter lives, thus maximizing your overall tax position. These assets may be any number of non-structural or external enhancements, whether functional or purely cosmetic. We regularly perform cost segregation analyses on both rental properties and other commercial structures ranging from office buildings and apartments to retail establishments and medical facilities. Often the result of a properly completed cost segregation study is that the owner of the property is able to depreciate a significant portion of the property’s cost over depreciable lives as short as 5, 7 or 15 years, rather than the maximum 39-year life.

Property Exchanges

Investment or business property can be sold without current income tax consequences if the transaction is properly structured as a Section 1031 like-kind exchange. The professionals at JPS have many years of experience in assisting with the structuring of property exchanges to help you achieve continued growth in your investments while avoiding current income taxes.
