Scott originally joined JPS upon graduating magna cum laude from Mars Hill College in 1979. In 1986, he and his brother, Bud, formed Hughes, Hughes & Company, PA, , where he provided accounting and auditing services to a variety of business, not-for-profit and individual clients. In 2004, Hughes, Hughes & Company, PA merged with JPS, where Scott's practice focuses on assurance services, peer review and tax management.

In his free time, Scott enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, singing, going on mission trips with his church and volunteering.
